Breathe Like an Opera Singer: how to use conscious breathing in your choreography

2 hours, Advanced Beginner-Advanced, silks, rope or dance trapeze (can also use sling or lyra, if requested)

Prerequisites: Comfortable in the air for up to 2-3 minutes at a time, and executing a short uncomplicated sequence.

In this workshop, we will take elements from classical vocal training and incorporate them into how we breathe as movers. We will also discuss how to incorporate breathing into our choreography to help for smoother movements, more fluid transitions, and more efficient training.

We will discuss how to recognize where you breathe and how often, especially in longer sequences. As time allows, we will also touch upon where and how to breathe in more challenging moves such as wheeldowns, drops and “squeezy moments.”

Finding Your Groove: Aerial Musicality, for non-musicians and musicians alike

2 hours, Advanced Beginner - Advanced, silks, rope or dance trapeze (can also use sling or lyra, if requested)Prerequisites:

Using ideas from Viewpoints movement training, as well as playing with the concepts of tempo and rhythm, we will explore how music can truly inhabit our bodies by listening to, breathing with, and even singing with our music choices.

Using the above concepts, we will dissect short floorial and aerial movements, and then translate those into longer and more fluid aerial sequences that can be dynamic, fun and even silly.

Students are encouraged to come with a piece of music in mind, or just be open to whatever the muse inspires us with that day.
