BIOGRAPHY (click to download)

A native of Santa Barbara, California, soprano Heather Michele Meyer has received critical acclaim for her “strong shimmering voice” (Opera Now), and her “riveting, poignant delivery” (Redwood City Tribune). A recent Bel Canto apprentice artist at the internationally renowned Caramoor Music Festival, her opera roles include the Governess in The Turn of the Screw, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro and both Mimì and Musetta in La Bohème. Most recently, she was seen as Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito with New York’s Empire Opera, with Baltimore’s Opera Vivente as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, as Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes with New York’s One World Symphony, and as First Lady in The Magic Flute in a repeat engagement with Opera Vivente. Other roles include Anna in Anna Bolena, Fiordililgi in Così fan tutte, and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

An active oratorio and concert recitalist, she was named as a semi-finalist in both the Oratorio Society of New York’s Solo Competition in 2008 and the Classical Singer Audition Competition in 2008. She has had the privilege to perform across the United States in such works as Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’ Requiem, Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Her consummate musicianship has also made her very much in demand for lesser known works such as Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi and Laud to the Nativity by Respighi, as well as new pieces such as James Buonemani’s Missa Miamiensis and William Hawley’s Songs of Kabir.

On the West Coast, she performed extensively with the San Francisco Conservatory's
New Music Ensemble, premiering works of both student and faculty composers. She
continues to be an advocate of contemporary music, with recent performances of
works by Ryan Tracy (Malcolm), Kamran Ince (The Judgment of Midas), and Janice
Hamer (Lost Childhood), to name just a few. She has collaborated with Mannes College
Faculty and Alumni composers, Encompass New Opera Theatre, and American Opera
Projects. Last fall, she appeared with Encompass in the recently completed opera,
The Theory of Everything, by John David Earnest. Upcoming engagements include a
debut with Amor Artis Orchestra as the soprano soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
