BIOGRAPHY (click to download)

A native of Santa Barbara, California, soprano Heather Michele Meyer has received critical acclaim for her “strong shimmering voice” (Opera Now), and her “riveting, poignant delivery” (Redwood City Tribune). With a voice particularly suited for Britten and Mozart, she made her professional debut as the Governess in The Turn of the Screw. Since then, she has been seen as Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito. Her most recent appearances were as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and First Lady in The Magic Flute with Baltimore’s Opera Vivente. During the 2009-2010 season, Ms. Meyer joined the internationally renowned Caramoor Music Festival as a Bel Canto apprentice artist, where she studied the title role in Anna Bolena. Her opera career has also included the roles of Fiordililgi in Così fan tutte, Helena in
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and both Mimi and Musetta in La Bohème.

An active oratorio and concert recitalist, she was named as a semi-finalist in both the Oratorio Society of New York’s Solo Competition in 2008 and the Classical Singer Audition Competition in 2008. She has had the privilege to perform across the United States in such works as Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’ Requiem, Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria. In the 2010-2011 season, she added Mendelssohn's Elijah to her repertoire in a performance with Amor Artis and Fairfield County Chorale. Her consummate musicianship has also made her in demand for lesser known works such as Poulenc’s Gloria, Respighi's Laud to the Nativity, and William Hawley’s Songs of Kabir, as well as Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony, which she performed with Grace Choral Society last year.

On the West Coast, she performed extensively with the San Francisco Conservatory's New Music Ensemble, premiering works of both student and faculty composers. She continues to be an advocate of contemporary music, with recent performances of works by Ryan Tracy (Malcolm), Kamran Ince (The Judgment of Midas), Janice Hamer (Lost Childhood), and John David Earnest (The Theory of Everything), to name just a few. She has collaborated with such groups as American Opera Projects, Opera Index, Mannes College Faculty and Alumni composers, and Encompass New Opera Theatre. Most recently, she had the privilege to work on Jennifer Griffith's new opera, Beautiful Creatures, which was produced by Stage|Time Collaborative and directed by the inimitable Christopher Alden. Upcoming performances include Poulenc’s Stabat Mater with Voices of Ascension and a return engagement with Stephen Somary and Amor Artis in Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle.
